University sues student for past-due debt

NEW ORLEANS – The University of Louisiana is seeking more than $3,000 stemming from a student contract for housing and meals.

University of Louisiana System Board of Supervisors, through University of Louisiana at Lafayette, filed a lawsuit Feb. 13 against Mia Scherer in Orleans Parish Civil District Court, alleging an open account.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff allowed the defendant to attend the institution for the spring 2013 semester. The defendant accumulated a balance owed of $3,799,91 and has failed to pay off the balance.

The plaintiff seeks all reasonable damages, court costs, attorney fees and all appropriate relief. The plaintiff is represented by attorney Wendy Ramnarine of the Louisiana of the Department of Justice in Baton Rouge.

The case has been assigned to Division G Judge Robin Giarrusso.
