NEW ORLEANS – A Galliano seaman alleges he was injured while working on a vessel when he was struck by a crane hook.

Toby Martin Jr. filed a complaint on March 2 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against Hercules Offshore Inc., Cliffs Drilling Co., FDT LLC, et al. alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Dec. 25, 2015, he was on the back deck of the M/V CTRUC 8 attempting to attach a mud hose from a jack-up vessel to the crane hook when he was suddenly struck in the back by the crane hook. The plaintiff holds Hercules Offshore Inc., Cliffs Drilling Co., FDT LLC, et al responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to follow appropriate standard operating procedures for crane operations.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks compensatory damages in the full and total sum of $3 million, plus interest, costs of these proceedings and all appropriate, general and equitable relief. He is represented by Thomas M. Discon ad Charlotte D. Strief of Discon Law Firm in Mandeville.
