TV reporter accused of defamation

NEW ORLEANS – A Plaquemines Parish man claims that he was defamed on a television news report.

Byron V. Williams Jr., filed a lawsuit March 3 against Lee Zurik, Louisiana Media Co. LLC, WVUE LLC of Delaware, Raycom Media Inc. and Edward Theriot in Orleans Parish Civil District Court, alleging defamation.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs were accused of errors of fact on Feb. 21, 2017, by the defendants. The suit states that the statement by the defendants was aired on television and was malicious in nature, as well as false.

The plaintiff seeks trial by jury, all reasonable damages, court costs, attorney fees and all appropriate relief. The plaintiff is represented by attorney Michael Mullin of the Law Offices of Michael L. Mullin in New Orleans.

The case has been assigned to Division L Judge Kern Reese.
