Outlet Collection at Riverwalk allegedly responsible for elevator falling on man's head

NEW ORLEANS – A man is seeking damages for an injury caused when an elevator allegedly fell on his head.

James Hines Jr. filed a lawsuit March 9 in Orleans Parish Civil District Court against Riverwalk Marketplace LLC d/b/a the Outlet Collection at Riverwalk, the Howard Hughes Corporation, Liberty Mutual Insurance Company, Kone Inc. and XYZ Insurance Company for allegedly failing to take measures to prevent his injury.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff was making a delivery to Riverwalk on March 10, 2016 and entered a freight elevator when it allegedly struck him on the head with full force, causing serious injuries.

The defendant is accused of failing to ensure that all of the equipment was functioning properly, failing to warn the plaintiff of the danger and allowing guests to be put in a dangerous position.

The plaintiff seeks all reasonable damages, court costs, attorney fees and all appropriate relief. The case has been assigned to Division M Judge Paulette R. Irons.
