NEW ORLEANS – A Mississippi couple alleges the husband suffered damages because of false charges filed by his former Slidell employer.

Herbert and Karen Brumfield filed a complaint on March 16 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against VGB Inc., doing business as Toyota of Slidell, and Russell Munster III alleging false imprisonment, false arrest and other counts.

According to the complaint, Herbert Brumfield was formerly employed by the defendants. He alleges that on March 18, 2016, he was arrested, jailed and required to post bond to secure his release as a result of the defendants filing criminal charges against him alleging the theft of keys. The suit states he was not prosecuted as a district attorney determined he was not guilty as charged and declined to prosecute.

Plaintiff Karen Brumfield alleges she suffered loss of consortium, service and society of her husband.

The plaintiffs hold VGB Inc. and Munster III responsible because the defendants allegedly fabricated stories and falsely filed criminal theft charges against Herbert Brumfield.

The plaintiffs request a trial by jury and seek compensatory damages of no less than $600,000, costs and expenses incurred in this litigation and such other relief as the court may deem just and appropriate. They are represented by Reginald J. Laurent in Slidell.
