Orleans Parish man alleges sulfur dust damaged eyesight

NEW ORLEANS – An individual claims that sulfur dust caused an eye injury.

Theron Andre Charlot of Orleans Parish filed a lawsuit against Amid Travel Plaza Inc., doing business as Palace Truck Stop & Casino; Gulf Transport LLC; Robert Grissett; John Doe; ABC Insurance Co.; and XYZ Insurance Co. in Orleans Parish Civil District Court alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff was at a truck stop at 12170 Gentilly Road, New Orleans on March 31, 2016, when the incident took place. The suit states that a car had been abandoned and had a sulfur residue on the surface. The wind caused the sulfur from the abandoned car to be blown into the plaintiff's eyes, causing injury.

The defendant is accused of negligence, abandoning the vehicle and failure to see the potential for danger.

The plaintiff seeks all reasonable damages, court costs, attorney fees and all appropriate relief. The plaintiff is represented by attorneys Jason Rogers Williams, Lewis O. Unglesby, Nicole E. Burdett of Unglesby Williams LLC in New Orleans.

The case has been assigned to Division I Judge Piper D. Griffin.
