Woman claims she was injured when elevator in building owned by Industrial Development Board fell several floors

NEW ORLEANS – A couple is seeking damages after an elevator fell and caused injures.

Domonique Etheridge Lackings and Ron Lackings of Orleans Parish filed a lawsuit April 3 against Schindler Elevator Corp.; Corporate Realty Inc.; Industrial Development Board of the city of New Orleans, Louisiana Inc.; ABC Insurance Co., DEF Insurance Co.; and XYZ Insurance Co. in Orleans Parish Civil District Court alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs are seeking damages for an incident that occurred on Nov. 9, 2016. The suit states that Domonique Etheridge Lackings worked for Ochsner Healthcare System in New Orleans. While she was taking the elevator to the 24th floor for work, the machine allegedly malfunctioned, dropping the elevator multiple floors. The plaintiff allegedly suffered injuries, including knee, back, neck, foot and elbow injuries, from the fall.

The defendant is accused of negligence through failing to maintain the elevator, failing to ensure that it was safe for visitors and employees to use and overall negligence in relation to the incident.

The plaintiffs seeks all reasonable damages, court costs, attorney fees and all appropriate relief, including compensation for emotional and relational injuries. They are represented by attorney Ross F. Lagarde of Ross F. Lagarde APLC in Slidell.

The case has been assigned to Division B Judge Melvin Zeno.
