NEW ORLEANS – An engineer alleges he was injured while working because of a negligently placed rope.

Henry Luwisch filed a complaint on April 11 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against American Marine Corp. alleging that the employer failed to provide a safe place to work.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Nov. 2, 2014, he was working in the course and scope of his employment on the upper deck of defendant's M/V American Challenger when he tripped on a rope and fell 10 feet down to the next deck. As a result, he alleges he sustained injuries that resulted in medical care and treatment, pain, mental anguish and disability to perform his usual duties.

The plaintiff holds American Marine Corp. responsible because the defendant's employee allegedly negligently placed and stored the rope in such a way that it was a hazard in the space.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks damages in an amount to be determined at trial, plus interest, attorney fees, costs and all other relief as justice may provide. He is represented by Lawrence Blake Jones and Kristi A. Post of Blake Jones Law Firm LLC in New Orleans.
