BATON ROUGE – A consumer claims a debt collector and a credit bureau are reporting a medical debt that she is not legally responsible for.

Meagan Crews filed a complaint on April 14 in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Louisiana against Account Control Bureau and Experian Information Solutions Inc. alleging that the debt collector and consumer reporting agency violated the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that she disputed two debts to Experian in March 2016 that are from medical bills incurred when she was a nonemancipated minor. The plaintiff holds Account Control Bureau and Experian Solutions Inc. responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to provide a reasonable good faith investigation into the debt.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks actual, statutory and punitive damages; costs; attorneys’ fees; and such other and further relief as may be necessary, just and proper. She is represented by Jonathan Raburn of The Raburn Law Firm LLC in Baton Rouge.
