NEW ORLEANS – A bus passenger has filed a suit over her alleged injuries she sustained while traveling on a school field trip.

Renee Shipley filed a complaint on April 21 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against the Lakeland Tours LLC, ProSight Specialty Insurance Co., Steven Charles, State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Co., et al. alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that in April 22, 2016, plaintiff was a passenger on a chartered bus with her grandson’s school class on a field trip when a pickup truck operated by defendant Charles suddenly cut in front of their bus. To avoid colliding, the suit states the Lakeland bus driver slammed on the brakes, causing the plaintiff to be hurled forward, fall to the floor and sustain severe injuries.

The plaintiff seeks judgment against defendants, for all sums reasonable in the premises, plus interest, costs of these proceedings and all other equitable relief. She is represented by Benjamin B. Saunders, Joseph M. Miller, Carisa German-Oden and Nicholas B. Castrogiovanni of Davis, Saunders, Miller & Oden Law Firm in Mandeville.
