American Crescent Elevators accused of negligence after elevator malfunctioned

NEW ORLEANS – Four people are seeking damages after they were injured when an elevator fell to the ground.

Curtis Johnson, Keiron Barrow, James Dorsey Jr. and Darnell Harrison filed a lawsuit April 24 against American Crescent Elevators and Selective Insurance/Mesa Underwriters in Orleans Parish Civil District Court alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs were in an elevator at the CHS Inc. facility where they worked at 434 E. Ravenna Road, Belle Chasse on June 8, 2016, when the incident occurred. The suit states that the the plaintiffs were injured then the elevator malfunctioned and fell to the bottom floor.

The defendant is accused of negligence through failing to warn of the danger or prevent the injuries from occurring, failing to maintain the elevator and overall negligence.

The plaintiff seeks all reasonable damages, court costs, attorney fees and all appropriate relief. The plaintiff is represented by attorneys Stephen Michael Schoenfeld, Morlas Voorhies Schoenfeld and Robert Morlas Schoenfeld of the Schoenfeld Law Corp. in New Orleans.

The case has been assigned to Division M Judge Paulette R. Irons.
