Orleans Parish resident claims an item fell and caused an injury at a Family Dollar store

GRETNA – An Orleans Parish resident is seeking damages, claiming that an item fell off a shelf at a dollar store and caused an injury.

Theronlyn Brocks filed a suit May 10 against Family Dollar Store Inc. and XYZ Insurance Co. in the 24th Judicial District Court alleging negligence.

According to the claim, the plaintiff, was at the defendant's property at 7437 Westbank Expressway, Marrero, on May 10, 2016, when the incident occurred. The suit states that the plaintiff was injured when an olive jar fell on her foot.

The defendant is accused of negligence by failing to properly stack or organize the products and overall negligence of management.

The plaintiff is seeking all reasonable sums due, attorney fees and court costs. The plaintiff is represented by David L. Coleman II of the Law Office of David L. Coleman II in New Orleans.

The case has been assigned to Division B Judge Cornelius E. Regan.
