NEW ORLEANS – An inmate is seeking $40 million in damages over alleged defamation of character from the city of New Orleans and law enforcement officials.

Lazandy Daniels filed a complaint on July 3 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against the city of New Orleans, Michael Harrison, Christopher Goodly, Joseph Davis and Chad Cockerham alleging defamation of character, wrongful death and wrongful conviction.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that he suffered defamation of character, pain and suffering and mental anguish as a result of the defendants' purported actions.

The plaintiff holds City of New Orleans, Michael Harrison, Christopher Goodly, Joseph Davis and Chad Cockerham responsible because the defendants allegedly falsified an arrest, lied to the federal jury, and/or failed to train and supervise officers.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks damages in the amount of $40 million. He is representing himself.
