Orleans Parish woman claims her dog was attacked by a pit bull

NEW ORLEANS – An Orleans Parish woman claims that a pit bull attacked her and her dog.

Rachel Meese filed a lawsuit against William Elliot and ABC Insurance Co. in Orleans Parish Civil District Court alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff was caused serious injury on Aug. 1, 2016, when she was walking her dog on Freret Street near Newcomb Place in New Orleans when the defendant's pit bull stuck his head out from under a fence and grabbed the plaintiff's dog, injuring it. The plaintiff tried to intervene and was injured, the suit states.

The defendant is accused of negligence by failing to have proper control of his dog, failing to warn of danger and overall negligence of ownership of a dangerous animal.

The plaintiff seeks all reasonable damages, court costs, attorney fees and all appropriate relief. The plaintiff is represented by attorney Halima Narcisse Smith of the Law Office of Halima Narcisse Smith LLC in New Orleans.

The case has been assigned to Division F Judge Christopher J. Bruno.
