Jefferson Parish couple claims a doctor failed to properly diagnose the wife with cancer

GRETNA – A Jefferson Parish couple claims that the wife was misdiagnosed after seeing a doctor.

Sherry Gaffney and J. Patrick Gaffney filed a suit against Reliant Radiology LLC and its employees and/or agents and Dr. Deanna F. Karl in the 24th Judicial District Court, alleging medical malpractice.

According to the claim, Sherry Gaffney, was a referred to Diagnostic Imaging Services in February 2015, for a mammogram and ultrasound of the left breast. The suit states Karl found a mass to be a cyst and informed the plaintiff; however, on Sept. 18, 2015, another doctor diagnosed her with cancer.

The defendant is accused of medical malpractice by failing to take the necessary precautions, failing to diagnose the plaintiff properly and overall negligence in terms of professionalism.

The plaintiff is seeking all reasonable sums due, attorney fees and court costs. The plaintiff is represented by Elisia Shofstahl Tipton of the Law Office of James A. Marchand Jr. LLC in Covington.

The case has been assigned to Division J Judge Stephen C. Grefer.
