Jefferson Parish resident accuses drivers of negligence in multicar crash

NEW ORLEANS – A Jefferson Parish resident is seeking damages for a car crash.

Elsayed Mohamed filed a lawsuit against Alana Chantal Marie Smith, Rasier LLC, James River Insurance Co., James Gastan Kennedy and Lyndon Southern Insurance Co. in Orleans Parish Civil District Court, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff was a passenger in an Uber car Feb. 23, 2017, which Smith was driving. The suit states that the plaintiff was injured when an SUV struck Kennedy's vehicle, which caused his vehicle to strike the back of Smith's car where the plaintiff was a passenger.

Smith and employer Rasier are accused of failing to come to a gradual stop and negligence. Kennedy is accused of negligence by failing to watch where he was going, failing to stop in enough time and overall negligence as a driver. The unidentified driver of the SUV is also accused of negligence.

The plaintiff seeks all reasonable damages, court costs, attorney fees and all appropriate relief. The plaintiff is represented by attorney Dean J. Favret, Seth H. Schaumburg, Anthony J. Russo, Angela C. Imbornone, Lauren A. Favret of Favret, Demarest, Russo, Lutkewitte & Schaumburg in New Orleans.

The case has been assigned to Division G Judge Robin M. Giarrusso.
