Insurance company accused of failing to honor coverage of New Orleans property

NEW ORLEANS – An Orleans Parish man is suing an insurance company after his property was damaged.

Dywone Brooks filed a lawsuit against Louisiana Citizens Property Insurance Corp. in Orleans Parish Civil District Court, alleging negligence. 

According to the complaint, the plaintiff's New Orleans property was damaged by a tornado. The suit states the plaintiff's property was a total loss due to wind damage, but when the defendant came to examine the property asses it for insurance coverage, the company refused to provide the plaintiff with compensation for losses.

The defendant is accused of breach of insurance contract.

The plaintiff seeks all reasonable damages, court costs, attorney fees and all appropriate relief. The plaintiff is represented by Jeffrey P. Berniard of Berniard Law Firm LLC in New Orleans.

The case has been assigned to Division A Judge Tiffany G. Chase.
