A woman is seeking damages after she allegedly tripped and fell on a rug at Evan's Creole Candy

NEW ORLEANS — A woman claims that she was caused to trip and fall on a rug in a candy shop.

Geneva Perez filed a lawsuit on Sept. 25 in Orleans Parish Civil District Court against Evan's Creole Candy Factory Inc., alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff is seeking damages for an incident that allegedly took place on Nov. 27, 2016. The suit states that the plaintiff was at the defendant's establishment when she allegedly was caused to slip and fall on a rug that allegedly had been left in poor condition on the ground near the entrance. The suit claims that the plaintiff fell and broke her glasses and suffered bodily injuries.

The defendant is accused of negligence for allegedly failing to warn her about the danger and ensure that the rug was in a good condition.

The plaintiff seeks all reasonable damages, court costs, attorney fees and appropriate relief. The plaintiff is represented by attorney Lauren Brossette of Broussard & Hart LLC in Lake Charles.

The case has been assigned to Division D Judge Nakisha Ervin-Knott.
