Women sue Harrah's for alleged bed bug attack

NEW ORLEANS – Two women claim that they were attacked by bed bugs in their hotel room.

Varonica Cooper and Martha Cortez filed a lawsuit on Nov. 17 against Jazz Casino Company LLC, doing business as Harrah's Hotel and Casino; Caesars Enterprise Services LLC; XYZ Insurance Company; and John and Jane Does 1-20 in Orleans Parish Civil District Court alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs are seeking damages for an incident that took place on Nov. 30, 2016. The suit states that the plaintiffs were staying at the defendant's property at 280 Polydras St. in New Orleans when they sustained bed bug bites. The suit states that the plaintiffs were caused emotional and physical distress due to the defendant's negligence.

The defendant is accused of negligence through failing to ensure that the premises were free from bacteria or pests, and failing to warn the plaintiffs of the risks that they may suffer.

The plaintiff seeks all reasonable damages, court costs, attorney fees and all appropriate relief. The plaintiffs are represented by attorney Daryl A. Gray of Gray Law Group LLC in New Orleans.

The case has been assigned to Division D Judge Nakisha Ervin Knott.
