Woman claims she fractured ankle in walkway fall

NEW ORLEANS – A woman claims that she was caused to trip and fall as she was leaving a home.

Inez Barnes filed a lawsuit on Nov. 20 against State Farm & Casualty Company and Syvella James in Orleans Parish Civil District Court alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff is seeking damages for an incident that took place on Nov. 24, 2016. The suit states that the plaintiff was at James' home at 4608 Marque Drive in New Orleans when she was caused to trip and fall on a drop off from the defendant's walkway, which was not clearly marked. The plaintiff  fractured her ankle in the fall.

The defendants are accused of negligence through failing to warn of the danger or prevent such an injury from occurring.

The plaintiff seeks all reasonable damages, court costs, attorney fees and all appropriate relief. The plaintiff is represented by attorney Reid S. Uzee of Gennusa, Piacun & Ruli in Metairie.

The case has been assigned to Division F Judge Christopher J. Bruno.
