NEW ORLEANS – A mother claims that her child was wrongly accused of being a gunman.

Catherine Nugent-Dunn, individually and on behalf of her minor child, filed a lawsuit on Sept. 1 against Holy Cross College Inc, d/b/a, Holy Cross School New Orleans, and The Roman Catholic Church of the Archdiocese of New Orleans in Orleans Parish Civil District Court alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff is seeking damages for an incident that took place on May 4. The plaintiff's child allegedly was bullied and then false rumors were spread about him bringing a gun to school. The suit claims the child was then further bullied and rumors elaborated about him being a mass shooter, which required him to be schooled at home for the rest of the year.

The defendant is accused of negligence and infliction of emotional distress.

The plaintiff seeks all reasonable damages, court costs, attorney fees and all appropriate relief. The plaintiff is represented by attorney Jessica M. Vasquez of Vasquez Law Office in New Orleans.

The case has been assigned to Division L Judge Kern A. Reese.
