Evans Creole Candy Factory accused of negligence

NEW ORLEANS – A woman is seeking damages after allegedly tripping on a rug inside a New Orleans candy store. 

Geneva Perez filed a lawsuit on Sept. 25 against Evans Creole Candy Factory Inc. in Orleans Parish Civil District Court alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff is seeking damages for an incident that took place on Nov. 17, 2016. The suit states that the plaintiff was injured while walking in the defendant's premises. She allegedly was caused to trip and fall on a defective rug and broke her eyeglasses.

The defendant is accused of negligence through failing to ensure that the premises were safe.

The plaintiff seeks all reasonable damages, court costs, attorney fees and all appropriate relief. The plaintiff is represented by Aaron Broussard and Lauren Brossette of Broussard & Hart LLC in Lake Charles.

The case has been assigned to Division D Judge Nakisha Ervin-Knott.
