Jefferson Parish School Board accused of negligence in bus accident

GRETNA — Parents of a Jefferson Parish student are suing the school board and an employee for damages after the bus their child was riding in was driven into a canal.

Tanya George and Frank George on behalf of their minor child filed a suit on Sept. 5 against Jefferson Parish School Board, bus driver Samantha Massey, Ace American Insurance Company and First Student Inc. in the 24th Judicial District Court alleging negligence.

According to the claim, the plaintiff is seeking damages for an incident that took place on Sept. 6, 2016. The suit states that the plaintiffs' child was riding in a Jefferson Parish school bus when Massey allegedly lost control of the vehicle and drove into a canal on West Metairie Avenue.

The defendants are accused of negligence and failing to operate the vehicle safely.

The plaintiff is seeking all reasonable sums due, attorney fees and court costs. The plaintiff is represented by Scott A. Decker of The Law Offices of Scott A. Decker LLC in Metairie.

The case has been assigned to Division B Judge Cornelius E. Regan.
