Mother accuses West Jefferson Medical Center of negligence

Medical malpractice 07

GRETNA — A mother claims that her child spent 16 days in the hospital due to the negligence of health care professionals.

Sheila Bourgeois filed a suit on Aug. 1 against West Jefferson Medical Center and Simone Lawson M.D. in the 24th Judicial District Court alleging negligence and breach in the standard of care.

According to the claim, the plaintiff is seeking damages for an incident that took place on Jan. 1, 2015 when the plaintiff brought her child to the ER at West Jefferson Medical Center. The suit states that the defendant failed to perform objective tests on the child. The condition worsened, which caused the patient to be transferred to the Children's Hospital where the patient stayed for 16 days. The plaintiff claims that the standard of care was breached; and had it been upheld, the condition of the child would not have exacerbated.

The defendant is accused of negligence.

The plaintiff is seeking all reasonable sums due, attorney fees and court costs. The plaintiff is represented by Jonathan B. Andry of The Andry Law Group LLC in New Orleans.

The case has been assigned to Division G Judge E. Adrian Adams.
