NEW ORLEANS – The Louisiana Stadium and Exposition District has filed suit over allegedly defective roof coating applied to the Superdome.

The district and the State of Louisiana filed a lawsuit on Oct. 30 against GAF Materials LLC and GAF Corporation in Orleans Parish Civil District Court alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs paid the defendant to provide a new roof coating for the Superdome in 2014. The coating was to have a guaranteed period of 20 years, but the roof began to show signs of wear and tear within a couple years. The defendant agreed to fix the roof's problems, but allegedly failed to remedy the situation.

The defendant is accused of negligence and breach of contract.

The plaintiff seeks all reasonable damages, court costs, attorney fees and all appropriate relief. The plaintiff is represented by attorney Brent A. Talbot of Chaffe McCall LLP in New Orleans.

The case has been assigned to Division N Judge Ethel S. Julien.
