Homeowner accused of misusing post-Katrina grant money

NEW ORLEANS – The State of Louisiana is seeking damages for post-Hurricane Katrina home improvement funds that allegedly were misappropriated.

The State of Louisiana Division of Administration Office of Community Development Disaster Recovery Unit filed a lawsuit on Nov. 2 against Danna Connerly in Orleans Parish Civil District Court alleging breach of contract. 

According to the complaint, the plaintiff is seeking damages for the balance of $145,100. The suit states that the defendant was given a grant in the balance of $97,300 and the sums were meant to be used toward repairing damage received during Hurricane Katrina. The defendant allegedly has failed to comply with the details of the agreement, and the defendant is currently indebted to and in breach of contract to the plaintiff.

The defendant is accused of breach of contract.

The plaintiff seeks all reasonable damages, court costs, attorney fees and all appropriate relief. The plaintiff is represented by attorney Mary Catherine Cali of Shows, Cali & Walsh LLP in Baton Rouge.

The case has been assigned to Division A Judge Henry Julien Jr.
