Family seeks damages after children reportedly were exposed to mold at school

GRETNA – A family is suing a county school board, alleging their children were exposed to mold at school.

Peter Yaukey, his wife Laurie Yaukey, and their minor children, filed a suit April 16 against the Jefferson Parish School Board and Core Construction Inc. in the 24th Judicial District Court alleging negligence.

According to the claim, between April and May of 2017, the plaintiffs' children were enrolled in the Patrick F. Taylor Science and Technology Academy at 701 Churchill Parkway. On April 14, 2017, the plaintiffs learned the school had been exposed to dangerous levels of mold and that their children's safety had been endangered by being exposed to this toxin.

The defendant is accused of negligence.

The plaintiff is seeking all reasonable sums due, attorney fees and court costs. The plaintiff is representing himself.

The case has been assigned to Division P Judge Stephen Grefer.
