NEW ORLEANS — A couple claims that a malfunctioning elevator caused one of them to sustain physical injuries.

Nekita Johnson and Jemone Johnson filed a lawsuit on May 1 against SP Plus Corporation, Otis Elevator Company, ABC Insurance Company, Louisiana Stadium and Exposition District and its board of commissioner, John Doe, in Orleans Parish Civil District Court, alleging negligence and loss of consortium.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs are seeking damages for an incident that allegedly took place on May 1, 2017 when Nekita Johnson was at the Heal Parking Garage at 300 La Salle Street in New Orleans. The suit claims that upon entering the defendants' elevator, it allegedly began to shake and jerk up and down. The plaintiffs claim that Nekita Johnson was trapped in the elevator during the incident and was unable to leave, which allegedly resulted in injuries and emotional distress.

The plaintiff seeks all reasonable damages, court costs, attorney's fees and all appropriate relief. The plaintiff is represented by attorney Kris P. Kiefer of Kiefer & Kiefer in Metairie.

The case has been assigned to Division I Judge Piper D. Griffin.
