Handicapped woman claims injuries after wheelchair lift allegedly malfunctions

NEW ORLEANS – A woman alleges that a malfunctioning lift on a bus caused her to be thrown from her wheelchair and suffer injuries.

Debra Green filed a complaint on Aug. 16 against the city of New Orleans, New Orleans Regional Transit Authority, Transdev Services Inc., Old Republic Insurance Co. and John Doe in Orleans Parish Civil District Court.

The plaintiff is seeking damages for an incident on Sept.11, 2017, when the plaintiff was caused to flip on the ground when a wheelchair lift on a bus malfunctioned, according to the lawsuit.

The defendants are accused of negligence.

The plaintiff seeks all reasonable damages, court costs, attorney fees and all appropriate relief. The plaintiff is represented by attorney Rene M. Tierney of Juan Lafonta & Associates in New Orleans.

The case has been assigned to Division E Judge Melvin Zeno.
