State seeks repayment of $68,000 in grant money

GRETNA –– Louisiana officials want a Jefferson Parish resident to repay more than $68,000 in grants.

Louisiana Division of Administration, Office of Community Development Disaster Recovery Unit, filed a complaint on Aug. 28 in the 24th Judicial District Court against Nathanial David Collins.

According to the complaint, Collins received a grant from the state to make repairs after Hurricane Katrina. However, Collins did not send proof that he used the money to elevate the home, the complaint states. Per the grant rules, Collins must repay the money. 

The plaintiff is seeking more than $68,000, plus costs. The plaintiff is represented by John C. Walsh of Shows, Cali & Walsh LLP in Baton Rouge.

The case has been assigned to Division J Judge Scott U. Schlegel.
