State agency seeks $67,000 from grant recipient, claiming repayment failure

GRETNA – The state of Louisiana is trying to obtain over $67,000 from a customer.

The State of Louisiana Division of Administration Office of Community Development Disaster Recovery filed a complaint on Nov. 27 in the 24th Judicial District Court against Beneche C. Rene.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff is seeking damages for sums due on an unpaid account. The suit states the state of Louisiana lent the defendant money for a repair grant which was meant to be repaid. The suit states the defendant has failed to pay off the balance due and that the plaintiff is seeking $37,500 in sums due plus interest and fees of $30,000.

The defendant is accused of sums due on an unpaid account.

The plaintiff is seeking all reasonable sums due, attorney fees and court costs. The plaintiff is represented by John Walsh of Shows, Cali & Walsh LLP in Baton Rouge.

The case has been assigned to Division K Judge Ellen Shirer Kovach.

The 24th Judicial District Court Case No. is 789928.
