Nicholls State files lawsuit seeking over $2,800 from former student

NEW ORLEANS – A university is seeking more than $2,800 in sums due from a former student.

The University of Louisiana System Board of Supervisors through Nicholls State University filed a complaint on Dec. 17 in Orleans Parish Civil District Court against Jessica A. Brown.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff is seeking damages for sums due on an open account. The suit states that the defendant accumulated a balance owed to the plaintiff while a student during the Fall 2014 semester. Since then, the defendant has failed to pay off the balance owed to the plaintiff of $2,845.35 plus interest.

The defendant is accused of sums due on an open account.

The plaintiff seeks all reasonable damages, court costs, attorney fees and all appropriate relief. The plaintiff is represented by Scott Smith Jr. of the Louisiana Department of Justice in Baton Rouge.

The case has been assigned to Division J Judge D. Nicole Sheppard.

The Orleans Parish Civil District Court Case No. is 2018-12610.
