Woman alleges she was rear-ended by Jefferson Parish Sheriff's vehicle

GRETNA – A woman is seeking damages, alleging she was rear-ended by a police vehicle.

Shirley Soniat filed a complaint on Jan. 2 in the 24th Judicial District Court against Jefferson Parish Sheriff Joseph Lopinto, individually and in his official capacity, and Gregory Lonero

According to the complaint, the plaintiff is seeking damages for an incident that took place on July 27, 2018. The plaintiff was driving her 2005 Chevrolet Corvette on Hickory Avenue when she was struck by Gregory Lonero, who was driving a vehicle in the fleet of Jefferson Parish Sheriff Joseph Lopinto. The plaintiff alleges the incident was due to the negligence of the police officer driving the vehicle.

The defendant is accused of negligence and failure to properly train and monitor employees.

The plaintiff is seeking all reasonable sums due, attorney fees and court costs. The plaintiff is represented by Kelly Rizzo of the Law Office of John W. Redmann in Gretna.

The case has been assigned to Division M Judge Henry Sullivan Jr.
