Man claims mold in Spanish Villa condo he rented made him ill

GRETNA – A man is seeking damages, alleging his condo made him ill due to the presence of mold.

Douglas Ehrmann filed a complaint on Jan. 4 in the 24th Judicial District Court against Mesa Underwriters Specialty Insurance Co., Spanish Villa LLC, Central Realty of Louisiana, and Jacob J. Cohen.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff is seeking damages for an incident that took place on Jan. 23, 2018 when the plaintiff was renting an apartment from the defendant at the address of 2850 Idaho St., Apartment 1014 in Kenner. The suit states the plaintiff complained due to the presence of mold in the house and the smell that it was causing, but the defendant did nothing to prevent the plaintiff from being made sick or uncomfortable due to the mold.

The defendant is accused of negligence and failure to create a safe environment.

The plaintiff is seeking all reasonable sums due, attorney fees and court costs. The plaintiff is represented by Thomas Cerullo of The Law Firm of Thomas C. Cerullo in Metairie.

The case has been assigned to Division N Judge Stephen Enright Jr.
