Complaint filed on behalf of injured police officer

GRETNA – A compensation company claims in a lawsuit that a police officer was injured in a car accident when another driver struck his squad car.

Louisiana Worker's Compensation Corporation filed the complaint against Patricia Toups and USAA General Indemnity Company on Jan. 28 in the 24th Judicial District Court. According to the lawsuit, the plaintiff is seeking damages for an incident that took place on Jan 29, 2018, when the plaintiff was working as an employee for the City of Westwego.

The suit states that the plaintiff was stopped on River Road and had his patrol lights flashing when the defendant failed to pull over to another lane as she passed the car, striking it violently and causing injuries to the officer. The defendant is accused of negligence and failure to operate a vehicle in a responsible manner.


The plaintiff is seeking all reasonable sums due, attorney fees and court costs, and is being represented by Musa Rahman of Johnson, Rahman & Thomas in Baton Rouge.

The case has been assigned to Division C Judge June Berry Darensburg.
