State files suit alleging couple misused grant funds

GRETNA – The State of Louisiana is seeking $37,500 in sums due on alleged misallocation of a government grant.

State of Louisiana Division of Administration Office of Community Development Disaster Recovery Unit filed a complaint against Marcus Surratt Sr. and Darline Surratt on Feb. 7 in the 24th Judicial District Court. According to the lawsuit, the plaintiff states that the defendant received a government grant but that the funds were not used for their stated purpose. The suit claims the defendant is now indebted for $37,500 for sums due on the grant.

The state is seeking all reasonable sums due, attorney fees and court costs. The plaintiff is represented by John C. Walsh of Shows, Cali & Walsh LLP in Baton Rouge.


The case has been assigned to Division D Judge Scott U. Schlegel.
