NEW ORLEANS – The State of Louisiana alleges that a woman is indebted for more than $95,000 on a grant that she used for purposes other than those for which the funds were approved.

State of Louisiana Division of Administration Office of Community Development Disaster Recovery Unit filed a complaint against Elizabeth Haines Stoner, aka Elizabeth Stoner Williams, on Feb. 11 in Orleans Parish Civil District Court. According to the lawsuit, the plaintiff states that the defendant received a grant for $95,653 to be used for repairs to her property. The defendant, however, is alleged to have misused the grant and is now indebted for the balance of the grant plus interest.

The state seeks all reasonable damages, court costs, attorney fees and all appropriate relief. The plaintiff is represented by attorney John C. Walsh of Shows, Cali & Walsh LLP in Baton Rouge.

The case has been assigned to Division I Judge Piper D. Griffin.
