State claims grant funds were misappropriated by defendants

NEW ORLEANS – The State of Louisiana claims it is owed more than $37,000 for a grant that was misappropriated by the recipients.

State of Louisiana Division of Administration Office of Community Development Disaster Recovery Unit filed a complaint against Paulette Lion Lotten, aka Paulette Lotten, and Ameldia C. Lion on Feb. 11 in Orleans Parish Civil District Court. According to the lawsuit, the plaintiff states that the defendant was negligent by misusing grant money that was approved for home repairs. The funds were allegedly used for something else, the suit claims, and the defendant now owes $37,500 to the state.

The plaintiff seeks all reasonable damages, court costs, attorney fees and all appropriate relief. The state is represented by attorney John C. Walsh of Shows, Cali & Walsh LLP in Baton Rouge.


The case has been assigned to Division F Judge Christopher J. Bruno.
