Former Ochsner Medical Center patient alleges lack of assistance caused fall

GRETNA – A former patient of a Jefferson Parish hospital is seeking damages over a fall that occurred while she was in its care.

Cassandra Lewis filed a complaint on March 6 in the 24th Judicial District Court against Ochsner Medical Center Foundation.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff is seeking damages for an incident that took place on May 29, 2015, when the plaintiff was a patient at the defendant's facility. The plaintiff alleges the defendant knew she was a known fall risk and that a tech left her alone while she was proceeding to use the restroom. She alleges because she was not properly assisted, she fell and sustained a head and low back injury.

The defendant is accused of negligence.

The plaintiff is seeking all reasonable sums due, attorney fees and court costs. The plaintiff is represented by J. Michael Daly in Metairie.

The case has been assigned to Division O Judge Danyelle M. Taylor.
