Woman sues Walmart after allegedly slipping on a substance

GRETNA – A woman is suing Walmart after she was allegedly injured by slipping on a substance in the store and falling to the ground.

Vanessa Rios and Jhousser Rubio Rios, individually and on behalf of their minor children, filed a complaint on April 1 in the 24th Judicial District Court against Walmart Inc and National Union Fire Insurance Company of Pittsburgh. According to the complaint, the plaintiffs are seeking damages for an incident that took place on Aug. 11, 2018 when Rios was a guest of the Walmart at 3520 Williams Blvd., Kenner. 

The suit states that the plaintiff Rios was caused to slip and fall on a substance that was left on the ground and was hazardous. The defendant is accused of negligence.


The plaintiffs are seeking all reasonable sums due, attorney fees and court costs. They are represented by Donald A. Mau of the Law Offices of Miguel A. Elias in Kenner.

The case has been assigned to Division F Judge Michael P. Mentz.
