Taylor, Porter, Brooks & Phillips LLP issued the following announcement on April 30.
Taylor Porter Managing Partner Bob Barton has been elected to the board of directors of Manship Theatre, which located in downtown Baton Rouge in the Shaw Center for the Arts, provides music, film, theatre, arts, and dance, within in a 325-seat auditorium. Board members serve three-year terms and work to establish policies for operation of the non-profit venue, and ensure and support sound management of the organization within the community.
Practicing law since 1994, Barton’s practice is varied, consisting of representation of local and national businesses in matters involving commercial litigation and transactions, regulatory and compliance matters, general litigation, and sports law. He has lectured to lawyers, law students, and business groups on various topics related to his practice areas. He is an adjunct professor of law at Louisiana State University Paul M. Hebert Law Center, where he teaches a course on Sports Law.
Barton is an active member of the Louisiana State Bar Association, Baton Rouge Bar Association, and the Louisiana Association of Defense Counsel (board member). He served as a member of the LSU National Collegiate Athletic Association Re-accreditation Committee. Elsewhere in the community, he is the Board Chair-Elect of HOPE Ministries. He has been an active supporter of the Capital Area United Way, chairing sections and divisions for the 2003, 2004, and 2005 campaigns, and served for six years as a member of the CAUW’s Board of Directors. He was also CAUW’s 2010-2012 Chairman of Community Investment. Barton has participated in the Baton Rouge Big Buddy Program and has coached various teams in youth sports.
