Taylor Porter attorney Caroline Darwin is featured in the Baton Rouge Bar Association newsletter and Member Spotlight Q&A, discussing her early career experience at Taylor Porter; education and law school background; community outreach; and advice for young lawyers.
Darwin practices in various areas of general commercial litigation. She earned her J.D. in 2017 from Louisiana State University Paul M. Hebert Law Center, and graduated from LSU in 2014 with a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication.

BRBA: Tell us about your education.
CKD: Louisiana State University for undergraduate and law school.
BRBA: Where are you from?
CKD: Bossier City aka God’s Country
BRBA: When were you admitted to practice and where do you work?
CKD: I was admitted to the Bar in October 2017 and I work at Taylor Porter.
BRBA: What advice do you have for new lawyers?
CKD: Seek out and try different opportunities. I’m fortunate to work at a firm that is well-versed in over 25 practice areas, which has given me the unique opportunity to work across a broad spectrum of legal issues and for a wide range of attorneys and clients. So far, I’ve assisted on cases ranging from criminal matters to successions to commercial litigation, and I’ve learned so much from each experience.
BRBA: What do you consider to be the biggest highlight of your career so far?
CKD: Participating in oral argument at the Louisiana First Circuit alongside Skip Philips last spring.
BRBA: What was the turning point that made you decide to become an attorney?
CKD: I decided I wanted to become an attorney my sophomore year of high school. I joined my school’s policy debate team that year, which gave me a glimpse into the art of advocacy. After winning the novice state championship my first year on the team, the seed was planted.
BRBA: If you were not practicing law, what would be your alternate profession?
CKD: I would start a business to help people organize their offices and homes.
BRBA: Are you involved with the BRBA? If so, how?
CKD: Yes, I am on the Holiday Star committee and a member of the Young Lawyers Section.
BRBA: What is your favorite BRBA activity or event?

BRBA: What is your favorite quote?

BRBA: How do you begin your day?
CKD: A cup of coffee and a walk around the block with my dog, Toby.
BRBA: What was your first job?
CKD: One of my first jobs was working at King Hardware on Line Avenue in Shreveport, which was a hardware store that doubled as a gift shop. I learned a little bit about hardware but also discovered that I’m a terrible gift wrapper. I still don’t know why the owners let me come back every year during my Christmas breaks in college to help wrap gifts.
BRBA: Favorite Baton Rouge location?
CKD: A float on St. Patrick’s Day.
BRBA: What is your favorite thing about being an attorney?
CKD: The people I work with at Taylor Porter. I thank my lucky stars that I get to work with such talented and decent people every day.
