Taylor, Porter, Brooks & Phillips LLP issued the following announcement on March 20.
Capital Area United Way has established the Capital Area COVID-19 Community Relief Fund to aid the residents and organizations of its 10-parish region. The fund will be used to assist in the recovery from the pandemic's impact to our local area. The dollars raised will be used to support our 2-1-1 operations as well as the ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) population who have been greatly impacted by business closures during this time.
The ALICE population makes up nearly half of Louisiana's population, The CAUW's 2-1-1 call center is taking calls in response to the COVID-19 pandemic providing up to date resources and support to the community. As the state appointed resource for COVID-19 information, it is imperative we continue to support this program and provide these services in a timely manner.
This fund is being established to support 2-1-1 operations and organizations along with programs that are serving the ALICE population. No administrative costs will be taken off the top of these donations. Thank you to the Mosaic Company who kicked off this fund by donating the first $10,000. Capital Area United Way has committed to match dollar for dollar up to the first $100,000 donated.
