Taylor, Porter, Brooks & Phillips LLP issued the following announcement on June 10.
Taylor Porter Partner and health care law attorney Adam Thames presented a CLE for the Baton Rouge Bar Association on "Louisiana Health Care Provider Liability During a Pandemic," held via teleconference on Thursday, June 11, from Noon to 1 p.m.
The CLE discussed how health care providers are facing mounting obstacles in providing medical care to patients during this pandemic. The complexities of treating COVID-19 coupled with, in some instances, the inability for patients to receive direct medical care for unrelated reasons raise many liability questions for patients and health care providers alike. This seminar focus on Louisiana laws that may provide civil immunity to health care providers who are accused of medical malpractice arising out of their treatment of patients during the course of this public health emergency. This seminar also analyze how Louisiana laws stack up to the laws in New York that have garnered so much national media attention and highlight the immunity bills being proposed at the current legislative session.
Thames is a Partner at Taylor Porter and a member of the Firm’s Health Care Practice Team. He devotes a significant portion of his practice to representing physicians, hospitals, dialysis clinics, nurses, and other healthcare providers in medical malpractice and other professional liability claims. Adam also has extensive experience litigating class action, products liability, personal injury, and insurance defense claims. He is ranked by his peers among the Louisiana Super Lawyers’ “Rising Stars.”
