NEW ORLEANS - An anonymous St. Charles Parish woman sued the Archdiocese of New Orleans and the Roman Catholic Church of the Archdiocese, among others, for alleged sexual abuse that took place in 1984, according to documents filed in February in the Orleans Parish District Court.
Also named as defendants are the Catholic Mutual Relief Society of America, Cabrini High School and Deacon George Felder Brignac. The plaintiff was a sophomore at Cabrini High in 1984, where defendant Deacon Brignac was a teacher.
The plaintiff missed a day of school and had to make up a test with Brignac after hours. While taking the test, the plaintiff says that Brignac approached her and began rubbing her shoulder, beck and arms, breathing heavily and licking his lips, and then groped her breasts.
The woman says she suffered mentally after the incident, falling victim to recreational drugs and sexual promiscuousness. Ultimately, she was asked to leave the high school, she says.
She is demanding a trial by jury and asks the court for damages deemed fit for her mental, physical and emotional suffering. The defendants removed the case to New Orleans federal court on March 8.
The plaintiff is represented by Jeff Green Legal LLC.
