BATON ROUGE - The East Baton Rouge Parish School Board wants to take a recent age discrimination lawsuit from a former football coach to federal court.

According to a complaint filed on February 24 in the East Baton Rough Parish District Court by plaintiff Terry Washington, the defendant's high school principal and assistant principal repeatedly joked that the plaintiff would likely have a heart attack or other injury due to his age while working as head football or track coach.

Principal Karen Triche allegedly menacingly questioned the plaintiff about when he would retire and threatened that he needed to retire by a certain time, plus many other age-based unwarranted criticisms, false accusations and offensive statements.

Washington was allegedly forced into resignation on June 30, 2020, and was replaced by a much younger hire.

The plaintiff is represented by Jill L. Craft Attorney at Law LLC of Baton Rouge.

On April 7, the defendant removed the case to U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Louisiana.
