Gov. Edwards Announces Boards and Commissions Appointments as of August 26, 2021

Louisiana Governor's Office issued the following announcement on Aug. 26.

Gov. John Bel Edwards announced his appointments to several Louisiana boards and commissions.  

Louisiana Military Family Assistance Board

The Military Family Assistance Board is responsible for establishing rules for funding need-based claims submitted by families of activated military personnel and travel assistance for deployed military personnel.

Brigadier General Michael A. Cushman of Mandeville has been appointed to the Louisiana Military Family Assistance Board. General Cushman was the principle advisor to the Under Secretary of the Air Force and director of the NRO on all Reserve Forces. He currently serves on several programs in support of veterans in need. He will serve as an honorably discharged veteran of the Louisiana National Guard or the active or other reserve components of the armed forces.

Louisiana Housing Corporation

The Louisiana Housing Corporation assures that every Louisiana resident is granted an opportunity to obtain safe, affordable and energy efficient housing.

Alfred E. Harrell III of Baton Rouge has been appointed to the Louisiana Housing Corporation. Harrell is the CEO of the Southern University System Foundation. He will serve at-large.

Richard A. Winder of Monroe has been appointed to the Louisiana Housing Corporation. Winder is the president of Richard A. Winder Realty Inc. He will serve at-large.

Board of Commissioners of the Lake Charles Harbor and Terminal District

The Port of the Lake Charles Harbor and Terminal District and the Board of Commissioners offer reliable shipping with proven historical performance—and are prepared for future growth. More than $108 billion in industrial projects have been recently completed, underway or announced on and around the Port and Calcasieu Ship Channel areas because of their capabilities and capacity.

Kevin D. Guidry of Lake Charles has been appointed to the Board of Commissioners of the Lake Charles Harbor and Terminal District. Guidry is the host of Soundoff 60 LLC. He was nominated by the governing authority of the city of Lake Charles.

Thomas L. Lorenzi of Lake Charles has been appointed to the Board of Commissioners of the Lake Charles Harbor and Terminal District. Lorenzi is a partner at Lorenzi and Barnatt LLC. He was nominated by the governing authority of Calcasieu Parish.

Louisiana State Board of Social Work Examiners

The Louisiana State Board of Social Work Examiners exists to safeguard the public health, safety, and welfare of the people of this state against unauthorized, unqualified, and improper practice of social work though a proper regulatory authority. 

Brent A. Villemarette of Opelousas has been appointed to the Louisiana State Board of Social Work Examiners. Villemarette is a licensed clinical social worker. He will serve as a licensed clinical social worker engaged primarily in social work education.

Oilfield Site Restoration Commission

The Louisiana Oilfield Site Restoration Program was created in 1993 within the Department of Natural Resources to address the growing problem of unrestored orphaned oilfield sites across the State. Orphan wells are abandoned oil and gas wells for which no viable responsible party can be located, or such party has failed to maintain the wellsite in accordance with State rules and regulations. The specific focus of the Oilfield Site Restoration Program is to properly plug and abandon orphan wells and to restore sites to approximate pre-wellsite conditions suitable for redevelopment.

Timothy J. Allen of Houma has been appointed to the Oilfield Site Restoration Commission. Allen is general manager of Apache Corporation. He was nominated by the Louisiana Landowners Association.

Louisiana State Board of Private Security Examiners

The Louisiana State Board of Private Security Examiners regulates the contract security guard industry in the state of Louisiana making sure companies register their personnel and obtain the required training as prescribed by law.

Jason P. Bourgeois of Baton Rouge has been appointed to the Louisiana State Board of Private Security Examiners. Bourgeois is owner and CEO of Bourgeois Security of Baton Rouge. He will represent the 3rd Public Service Commission District.

Jason R. Wilbur of Lake Charles has been appointed to the Louisiana State Board of Private Security Examiners. Wilbur is the CEO of Stratigos Dynamics, Inc. He will represent the 4th Public Service Commission District.
