Louisiana Governor's Office issued the following announcement on Oct. 29.
Gov. John Bel Edwards announced his appointments to several Louisiana boards and commissions.
Governor’s Advisory Board of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention
The Governor’s Advisory Board of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention encourages and assists the state, units of local government, and private non-profit agencies in the comprehensive improvement of the juvenile justice system in the State of Louisiana by providing advice and counsel to the Louisiana Commission on Law Enforcement, the Louisiana Legislature, and the Governor on the ways and means to facilitate greater juvenile justice system effectiveness.
Travis Johnson of Harvey has been appointed to the Governor’s Advisory Board of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention. Johnson is the director of behavioral health for Inclusive Care Medical Clinic. He will serve as a person with expertise and competence in preventing and addressing mental health and substance abuse needs in delinquent youth and youth at risk of delinquency.
Louisiana Board of Professional Geoscientists
The Board of Professional Geoscientists was created to protect the public health, safety, and welfare and to guard the state's natural resources with regard to environmental and civil projects where a geoscientific review and evaluation is required in the making of recommendations of any geoscientific components.
David B. Culpepper of New Orleans has been appointed to the Louisiana Board of Professional Geoscientists. Culpepper is the president of the Culpepper Group LLC. He was nominated by the New Orleans Geological Society and will represent the 2nd congressional district.
Michael A. Simms of Baton Rouge has been appointed to the Louisiana Board of Professional Geoscientists. Simms is a project manager for APTIM Environmental & Infrastructure LLC. He was nominated by the Baton Rouge Geological Society and will represent the 6th congressional district.
Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports
The Governor's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports (GCPFS) plays a vital role in the promotion of physical activity and wellness throughout the state of Louisiana. The mandated function of the Council is to protect, promote and improve the physical fitness of the residents of the State. GCPFS is comprised of fifteen representatives from across the state appointed by the governor and are representative of physicians, pediatricians, coaches, physical therapists, athletic trainers, athletes, educators, and such persons or professions interested in the physical fitness of the citizens of Louisiana. The Council’s vision is that the state and its communities embrace and support a culture that promotes physical activity and physical and health education.
Kathryn L. McKey of Broussard has been appointed to the Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports. McKey is an instructor at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. She will serve as an educator.
Parish Boards of Election Supervisors
The purpose of the board in each parish is to oversee and supervise all elections within the parish to ensure the safety and accuracy of the democratic process. The Boards of Election Supervisors oversees the preparation and conducting of each election in the parish. Each parish’s board is composed of the parish’s registrar of voters, the parish’s clerk of court, the chairman of the parish executive committee of each recognized political party, and one member appointed by the governor.
Donald W. “Don” DuPlechian of Oberlin has been appointed to the Parish Boards of Election Supervisors. DuPlechian is the senior chaplain at Brighton Bridge Hospice. He will serve as the election supervisor of Allen Parish.
