A former Shreveport Fire Department employee has sued the city in federal court, claiming her firing violated the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Felicia Scroggins filed her complaint October 31 in federal court against the City of Shreveport. According to the complaint, Scroggins says she was fired January 19 while on sick leave.
"Plaintiff is a qualified individual with a disability," the lawsuit states. " She had a psychological impairment that substantially affected her ability to perform daily activities due to depression and anxiety and fear of encountering an anxiety trigger."
The city discriminated against Scroggins "by refusing to accommodate her disability and terminating her employment," the lawsuit claims.
She also had a history with the city of discrimination and retaliation, the lawsuit states.
"She has filed multiple grievances and several complaints with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission asserting claims of sex and race discrimination," the suit says. "She has filed complaints of retaliation based upon her prior protected activity."
At the time of her firing, Scroggins had a lawsuit pending against the city, according to the lawsuit. She seeks either reinstatement to her job or back pay plus attorney fees.
Scroggins is represented by Allison A. Jones of Downer, Jones, Marino & Wilhite.
