A doctor has filed a defamation suit against other physicians and the University of Mississippi Internal Medicine Residency Program.

Terence J. Alost filed his federal lawsuit against the program, program physician-in training Elisabeth Picciola VanDenLangenberg and program director Samuel “Calvin” Thigpen.

According to the complaint, Alost claims defamatory statements were made about him in a patient's medical record, which damaged his reputation and that of three nurses who also were on duty at the time. The alleged defamation began in January 2023 and was discovered by Alost when he accessed the patient's medical record, according to the complaint.

Alost claims there were no retractions or apologies were made for these statements.

The lawsuit also accuses the defendants of making false statements in other patients' medical records which resulted in medical malpractice and apparent permanent damage to a patient’s kidneys.

Alost is representing himself in this case.
